Game 2

All,
We played quite well this past Sunday, I think, and it's very encouraging that we responded from our first game in such a positive manner.
Now there's a bit of time before our next game and of course time to think, analyze, deconstruct, but there is one very fundamental aspect to our game I think we could focus on for next time - scoring goals. This is everyone's responsibility, not just the forwards. We can build from the back, and now that we've played two games and are getting our legs, we can overlap from the defense.
Last night at the indoor game, we talked about not having that collective edge that pushes you past the opponent. Yes, we played hard, and yes we played well - foundations. I think we're ready to be more aggressive out there, more attack minded, less satisfied with a good chance and more determined to convert that chance.
Give it some thought.
Again, great work this past week. Rest up and we'll see each other a week from Sunday.

Some early season musings: 1. ES has the best goalie tandom in the league, Jeff has a clear command of outdoor & Billy has been phenominal indoor. 2. We ask alot of our outside halfs (make outside runs, get to the line, cover back, I'm tired just thinking about it), 3. Jim will score 3 games in 1 game, 4. Rocky III "Eye of the Tiger", is coming soon. 5. Next guy to hit a post buys a soccer ball and brings it for warm-ups, 6. Jeff C is leading the most improved player category (considering 7 months ago he was laid up with a broken ankle), 8. We love to leave big gaps between the O and D, perfect for the other team to set up shop, 9. I have the best save of the year (off my ass!) 10. I'm glad we get to play Carlisle again - circle it on your calendars 06/18.

Agreed with Jeff, Jim and Sensei G. Enough fannying about, let's start scoring/winning.

Since no one has responded to Jeff's pick up request, I would suggest that we seriously consider creating our own pick-up/practice session (especially with indoor coming to a close). What are everyone's feelings about either a weekly or bi-weekly practice?

From what I understand from everyone, we would have numerous options for a field to use for this purpose.

It would be great to create our own pickup game / practice. My vote is for Thursdays, but I can be somewhat flexible.
Great comments on our work on the field. We've got the right spirit here, so let's keep pushing and experimenting: 4-3-3, 3-5-2, 4-3-2-1, let'see what works for our personnel.

Practice/Pick-up was just an idea. It seems to make a lot of sense, since the only other options I know about (and I'm the new guy here) are either the geriatric pick-up that Pete introduced me to or at ?Hershey Medical Center? which no one seems that excited about.

I can guarantee you that other players would hear about our pick-up/practice and come out (if we wanted them to).....we just need to select a day/time/location that works for most. If we had flood lights as an option, we could do it a bit later, mirroring the present indoor schedule and making it a bit easier for everyone.

Also, agreed with Jeff again, let's keep tinkering with our formation until we find the right fit for the players that we have.

It also might not be a bad idea to try and pick up one or two additions to help out in defense and up top in either the striker role or as an offensive midfielder.
