That was a damn fine effort

I tell you, it was heartening to see the effort put in across the board today. We should all be proud and satisfied. We have three games left, and if we play like we did today and have a full squad, we should compete for the points. Personally, I had a tale of two halves, stank like a rat's ass in the first, moved to the middle and became suddenly comfortable. Interesting how that happened. How did you all experience the day? Gary lit the lamp well, Marat fought like I'd never seen him fight before.
Let's get together on Thursday again, at 7. See you then,
jc

I typically measure the strength of two teams from the 20-40 minute mark. By then each has felt each other out and the tempo is a bit higher and everyone has had a chance to be involved in the game. Based upon that I think we had excellent movement off the ball and we utilized the width of the field well. Despite being down a man, we played good zone coverage and typically had outlet options coming out of the back. Our offsides really hurt us, but it also kept their defense honest. Had they pushed another player up, I think there would have been more coverage breakdowns. We showed more patience with the ball and I think Thursday's kickaround helped that. Jim adapted to the halfback position well and despite all of the pressure our D did a good job of managing the threats. I know Jeff would like some of those goals back, but it was tricky conditions back there and a few there was no chance of saving. Positive stuff to build on.
